Perhaps you have questions like the ones above, but you don't know how to find the answers. Few professionals who diagnose mental health conditions are able to spend more than an hour diagnosing your symptoms. While a quick diagnosis can be the right one, many people have more questions that remain unanswered, as the nuances of their conditions go unnoticed or are never discussed.

A full psychological evaluation can help to provide an accurate diagnosis of mental health conditions, including those that affect mood, attention, thought, behavior, and memory. Psychological evaluations can help people understand more about coping with their difficulties or provide caregivers, schools, and other supportive staff guidelines for intervention.

Psychological evaluation services are available for children, adolescents, young adults, adults, and older adults to help provide the most accurate diagnosis and overwhelmingly comprehensive list of recommendations. She can work with most people between the ages of 7 and 95 to provide psychological assessments.​

With each psychological evaluation, the scientific literature is consulted to help provide the best understanding of the current symptoms, origin of their diagnosis, and possible interventions for each client. Additionally, the recommendations are tailored to the developmental needs of the client. For example, when clients are children, adolescents, or young adults, recommendations often include strategies to assist with their development of skills related to academic performance, peer relationships, and family dynamics. Recommendations for school and/or workplace accommodations are also made, when appropriate.

While each individual requires slightly different approaches, some general estimates regarding the time involved in evaluations and a brief description of each evaluation is provided below. Please keep in mind that most insurance companies, including Medicare and Medicaid, do NOT cover the cost of psychological evaluation.

​Standard Cognitive Ability Evaluation:

This evaluation is recommended for clients who are interested in knowing their IQ only. This can be useful as a basic baseline for adults who may be curious about changes in their cognitive functioning as they age. Additionally, this can be helpful for children and adolescents whose parents are concerned about their children needing more academic challenges in school. No diagnoses will be given with the Standard Cognitive Ability Evaluation. Testing, interviewing, and observations typically takes 1.5-2 hours. Career Direction Evaluation:

This evaluation is recommended for clients who are questioning their career path, deciding whether to pursue a college degree or technical training, or deciding on a college major. Testing explores your academic strengths and weaknesses, as well as how you compare to your peers in terms of ability. Basic personality testing is combined with your occupational interests and values to help you narrow down career options and focus on certain fields. Testing, interviewing, and observations typically takes 3-4 hours. Scoring and interpreting tests, report writing, researching, consultation, communication and feedback typically takes 2-4 hours. Ages 14+

Cognitive Plus Career Direction Evaluation:

This evaluation is a combination between the Cognitive and Career Direction Evaluations and includes the standard Cognitive Ability (IQ) assessment in addition to the Career Direction Evaluation. Testing, interviewing, and observations typically takes 5-8 hours. Scoring and interpreting tests, report writing, researching, consultation, communication and feedback typically takes 2-5 hours. Ages 14+

Mental Health Evaluation:

This evaluation is recommended for clients who are suspected to have a mental health condition, like depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder, but they either have not been diagnosed in the past, their symptoms have changed, or their treatments haven't been working very well. Often, a thorough mental health evaluation can be helpful for a client to share with his or her psychiatrist if they are prescribed medication. Recommendations for treatment, academic accommodations, and work, school, and life success are provided. Resources (books, websites, and scientific articles) are also provided. Testing, interviewing, observation typically takes 2-4 hours. Scoring and interpreting tests, report writing, researching, consultation, communication and feedback typically takes 2-4 hours. Ages 7+

AD/HD Evaluation:

This evaluation is recommended for clients who are suspected to have an attention-related condition, like Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder. There are many conditions that can mimic AD/HD, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. Since the medication (often stimulants) used to treat AD/HD can worsen the symptoms of other mental health conditions, it is very important to rule out other conditions and to be sure that inattention is due to AD/HD when medication for AD/HD is being considered. Additionally, many people with AD/HD have another mental health condition in addition to AD/HD. This evaluation helps to sort through the symptoms and provide the most accurate diagnosing possible. Recommendations for treatment, academic accommodations, and work, school, and life success are provided. Resources (books, websites, and scientific articles) are also provided. Testing, interviewing, and observations typically takes 3.5-5 hours. Scoring and interpreting tests, report writing, researching, consultation, communication and feedback typically takes 2-4 hours (often takes longer for children, as it requires collecting data from multiple sources and may require classroom observation). -- Under age 12 typically takes 2-4 hours longer due to additional data collection. Ages 7+

Learning Disorder Evaluation:

This evaluation is recommended for clients who are suspected to have a general Intellectual Disability (i.e., low IQ) or a Specific Learning Disability (i.e., problems learning despite average IQ). Many K-12 schools have limited resources to provide testing and often utilize the "response to intervention" method for identifying students who struggle to learn in specific topic areas, like math or reading. However, most colleges and universities, as well as college-testing corporations, require formal testing for specific learning disorders that are conducted using specific tests and methods. Further, due to limited resources, many individuals with average to above average IQ who have learning disorders often remain undiagnosed until they reach a level of academic rigor that exceeds their ability to compensate. That is, some people are able to get by/ pass their classes until they reach college coursework or even graduate school. Then, they struggle, and often give up on their dreams. Recommendations for treatment, academic accommodations, and work, school, and life success are provided. Scoring and interpreting tests, report writing, researching, consultation, communication and feedback typically takes 5-10 hours. Full Cognitive Evaluation:

This evaluation is recommended for clients who have experienced an injury or disease that affects their cognitive functioning. An extensive battery of cognitive tests is administered in an effort to understand what skills are intact and what skills may need further rehabilitation. Cognitive strengths and weaknesses are discussed in concert with relevant scientific literature in an effort to promote a greater understanding for the client and the people who work with them. Autism Spectrum Disorder Evaluation: 

This evaluation is recommended for clients who are suspected to have an Autism Spectrum Disorder or what was formerly referred to as Asperger's Disorder or Pervasive Developmental Disorder. With the latest revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition, or DSM-5, the aforementioned conditions were collapsed into Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). People who have ASD often have difficulty with communication and social functioning, starting very early in life. Some people learn to adapt better as adolescents or adults, but others may have pervasive difficulties. The benefits of diagnosis can be access to intervention resources while of public school age and access to ADA accommodations for school and the workplace for adults. Recommendations for treatment, academic accommodations, and work, school, and life success are provided. Immigration Hardship Psychological Evaluation:

This evaluation is recommended for clients who are pursuing an immigration hardship waiver. Evaluation will assess for mental health conditions, emotional suffering, and likelihood of worsening symptoms without the presence of the person whose immigration is being petitioned. In depth history and the broader emotional and developmental contexts will be explored and documented. Specific recommendations will be provided.. Reports include citations and references to the scientific literature to support recommendations and predictions, which is often helpful in legal contexts. Testing, interviewing, and observations typically takes 2-4 hours. Court Ordered Evaluation:

Sometimes, people are ordered by a Judge to pursue an evaluation.  Sometimes, the court orders ADHD, Learning Disorder, Cognitive, or Psychological Evaluation that is then utilized by the court to make determinations. Please noted that court-related testimony is an additional service and is not included in the price of an evaluation. Testing and report writing time depends on the court's primary question and client compliance. Ages 7+
