When athletes, performers & leaders need help beyond performance.
Whether you're an athlete, performer, leader, or parent, you're a person first and foremost. Nearly 50% of the population will struggle with a diagnosable mental health condition at some point.

Having a trained therapist who can help high-achievers with their emotional struggles and life issues is widely recognized to be important. In fact, many NCAA and Olympic teams have access to both mental skills training and mental health therapy.
If you find yourself struggling to manage your own emotions, feel overwhelmed by your thoughts or out of control with your behaviors, it may be helpful to seek professional therapy.

The Action Potential Treatment Approach

The primary treatment approach used at Action Potential Advantage is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is a research-supported, behaviorally-based treatment.
Understanding why you engage in certain patterns is important if it helps you move toward change, but it isn't the main focus of therapy. From an ACT perspective, your values and life-goals become your primary focus and function as a cornerstone of change. Most people don't realize when their values and life-goals are far from their daily lives, until they are weighed down by depression, anxiety, perfectionism, or burnout. Often, people know that something is wrong, but they struggle to pinpoint exactly what.
ACT can be especially helpful for athletes or performers who are experiencing emotional suffering, negative thoughts, or burnout. ACT can also help athletes and performers better understand who they are after retirement, injury or the eventual end of their participation in their high-achievement activity- a time when many struggle with identity loss. The ACT approach can help a person re-calibrate and anchor themselves in a more flexible way.

What problems can be helped with therapy?

-
You can understand yourself better and make new choices.
-
You are confused about your life-direction or career.

You are having trouble sticking to your resolutions or goals.
-
You are having trouble adjusting to a new situation (e.g., moving, school, work, medical condition or injury, divorce or separation).
